Overview:
Tasked with illustrating an important Polynesian cultural concept called tāura, where ancestor spirits are incarnated in animals for protection and strength. Researched local artwork centering tāura. Developed a composition centering on the green sea turtle, honu, since it is one of the most culturally significant animals. Depicted a human child with hatching baby turtles and an adult ancestor spirit guided by an adult turtle, all in a split-shot landscape in a realistic style.
